Here you can reach Chopta village only by your own or public means, so the further journey will have to be done on foot. The trek to Tungnath temple is not very difficult as it has been made flat by cutting rocks and stones, but at some places, there is a steep climb.
You will not have much difficulty in the trek to Tungnath Temple. If you walk intermittently, this trek will be completed in a maximum of 3 hours but the main thing that makes the trek to Tungnath attractive is the beautiful view here.
In the middle of the trek to Tungnath Temple, you will have to cross bamboo and buransh forests. These forests start from Gopeshwar while coming to Chopta. Here you will get to see Himalayan hills, cool air, many types of flowers, velvet grass, etc.
Surroundings of Tungnath Temple:
When you go to Chopta by bus or taxi, then in the local language this area is known as the Bugyal area. Bugyal is an area of velvety grass between trees and snow. This place falls on the timberline in Garhwal of Uttarakhand state. This line is where the innumerable trees end and the velvety grass begins. In a way, it is the space between the trees and the snow where there is velvet grass.
In winter, the grass here gets covered with snow, which makes it even more beautiful. Also here you will get to see colorful flowers which will add charm to this beautiful scene. Chopta village is a beautiful village surrounded by deodar and alpine trees. One and a half kilometers from the Tungnath temple, one can reach the top of Chandrashila hill, from where a wonderful view of the Himalayan mountain ranges can be seen.

Worship at Tungnath Temple:
Centuries ago, when Adi Shankaracharya was born, according to his order, Pandits from South India became the main priests in the remaining four Kedar. This tradition continues to date but it is not so with Tungnath temple. The priests of the Tungnath temple are the local Brahmins from the nearby village of Makkumath. When the Tungnath temple is closed in winter, the main idol is taken from there and installed in the temple of Makkumath village itself.
Tungnath Temple Weather:
If you do not live in the hilly areas, then you will always feel cold here because the summer here is equal to the winter in the plains. Here in summer, the maximum temperature reaches 15 to 20 degrees whereas in winter the snow freezes here and the temperature reaches -5 to -10 degrees. That’s why whenever you come here, bring warm clothes with you.
